The Farm

A CONSERVATION-LED WORKING FARM

Green Farm, at its heart, is a home and a family run farm estate with a vision to be the country’s leading well-being retreat, where protecting and preserving nature, the landscape and the land for a sustainable future is of paramount importance.

Bought by MaryAnn and Martin Richmond-Coggan in September 2008, the estate has been lovingly and carefully restored to its current pristine condition, that is also now home to luxury accommodation, well-being retreats, boutique Spa and much more.

Green Farm was bought at auction, with the sale consisting of the main Farmhouse, 3 acres of land as well as the open-Barn. In the following years, Maryann and Martin worked tirelessly to acquire the other surrounding out-buildings and land, which had previously been sold off separately. This included the Stables as well as the derelict Victorian Barn in November 2011, which was the Farm’s coach-house in the mid-19th century.

Prior to the purchase, Green Farm had long been a place of special importance to the family. MaryAnn’s father Gordon had bought the adjoining property Alex Farm back in 1972, and MaryAnn lived next to Green Farm from her mid-teens where she also ran a livery business from the property in her 20s. In 2005 MaryAnn and Martin were also married in Shadoxhurst Church, opposite the house, and serendipitously Green Farm came up for sale a few years later. The 50-acres of pasture and woodland that now makes up Green Farm has since been acquired in bits and pieces; much of which still borders the fields of Alex Farm that is still owned by Maryann’s family.

Since the keys were handed over, MaryAnn and Martin have worked ceaselessly to restore and renew Green Farm, and its wider footprint, to make it the remarkable place that it is today. Reinstating nature to the land and educating others to the importance of conservation and sustainability has also been central to the formation and success of Green Farm’s commercial business with nature playing a strong role throughout.
